October is Breast Cancer Awareness, but did you know that it is also Dyslexia Awareness Month as well? Dyslexia falls in the category of a Brain Disorder, so that awareness ribbon is silver. I haven't told that many people, but my son was recently diagnosed as a highly impaired Dyslexic. The more research I do, the more discouraged I become to find that a lot of people don't realize the extent of how impairing dyslexia can be. I won't go into the woes of how discouraging it has been just trying to get the right diagnosis for my son over the past 4 years, but I will tell you that God is good. We are still trying to get the right treatments, and insurance keeps denying us, but we are at least on the right track. The more I read, the more I understand. Sure, I wish that someone could have seen this years ago, but I believe everything happens in God's timing, and He will see us through.
I made this card for a few challenges. It uses one of Laurie's adorable
Doodle Pantry images (yes, I just love the adorable ants), called
I will Survive. I used the sketch from
Sweet Sketch Wednesday, the challenge of hearts from
Little Red Wagon, and the challenge of ruffles from
CCEE.
Image: I will Survive
Ink: Black Soot Distress Ink, Baja Breeze, Sahara Sand
Paper: My Mind's Eye dp, unknown blue, Cottonball White (CDS)
Accessories: Copics, silver ruffle ribbon (MFT), Designer Label Die (CDS), sponges, Silver Spica pen, silver brads
Thanks for listening to me blabber on. We never really realize how important something is until it affects us. Have a wonderful Thursday!
Hey Cassie...your little ants are sooo cute!!! Your coloring is gorgeous, as always, and I love the pleated ribbon!!!! I'm glad you finally received a diagnosos for your son...now you can move forward in the right direction!!! My DH has dyxlexia...actually spent 20 years in the service before he was diagnosed!!! Hope you find the services he needs...sending prayers and hugs!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable card, Cassie! I'm so glad you got the diagnosis for ds. I know how frustrating it can be as a homeschool mom when you know something isn't right and you don't know what. My dd was 16 before we found out she had celiac disease, which causes (among other things) brain fog. It was a long 16 years not knowing what her problem was! But I was so thankful that we could homeschool and give her the one on one attention. She graduated last year and is working at JCPenney's now, saving $$ for college. God is Good!!
ReplyDeleteGreat card Cassie! Love everything about it! Sending love your way, I know you have a tough road, but you are a wonderful mom, exactly what M&M need. :o)
ReplyDeleteHi Cassie, I just love your card the image is so so cute and I adore the colours and desgin papers. I have left a link with my card so you can see it as well

I am so glad that your son has been diagnosed in away it's a relief especially as a mum you know there is something just not right and you can't see what the problem is. It's a shame that the professionals take so long before they give you their results. I have a friend who has twin girls they are now 11 but when they were young she knew that one was different to the other but couldn't work out what? The little girl was finelly diagnosed she had Autism, she is now in a special class with a caregiver and that is hard on twins being seperated at least they are at both at the same school. Also the little girl with Autism is maturing quicker as girls do than the sister that is in a general class. Take care keep your chin up be strong as there is a light at the end of every tunnel.
Thanks so much for joining us this week at SSW and good luck.
Hugs
Kathie

I am so glad that you are finally getting some answers. I know this has been a difficult road for you.. I will pray that you find the right path.. This card is beautiful.. I know that you put your heart into homeschooling and I think you are awesome..Keep up the great work..:)
ReplyDeleteCassie,
ReplyDeleteThis card is beautiful and I am happy to hear that you are making strides toward a successful plan for your son. I deal with some dyslexia and it is quite challenging. I feel for him and for you as you try to help him through it. Patience was something that I wished my parents had more of when I was growing up-they just got frustrated with me and thought I didn't want to learn. :/
Hugs to you luv,
gina
Awww I will be praying for your son and your family. I hope you find the right path for him soon.
ReplyDeleteLove this card, so sweet.
